    The Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center is a sprawling office complex located in the very center of downtown Atlanta, Georgia and consists of the nearly 100 year old historic former Rich’s Department Store Bldg. as well as new Mid-rise and High-rise office additions. The project’s scope included the structural investigation and analysis of the Rich’s bldg. existing roof framing system, as well as the Mid-rise framing, to determine if they would accept the weight of a new vegetated green roof. After determining that they would safely support the new loads, design plans and specifications were prepared and construction administration accomplished for the 47,000 square foot, $1.7 million dollar project.

Construction Cost of Project was $188,400.00.

    This project involved the investigation, design, and construction administration of a $250,000.00 vegetated green roof on the GSA’s Peachtree Summit Building located in downtown Atlanta. Covering some 2,500 (combined) square feet of mechanical penthouse and stair tower roofing, these vegetated green roofs required special design procedures to ensure the new growing media stayed in place thirty plus stories above the ground. At the time of their completion, it was believed that these green roofs were the highest in North America.
